Spotlight Project

Challenge: To update a lake house on Lake Wylie. Space and light was at a premium.

Metropolitan Design Concepts completed a renovation representing a complete overhaul of this dark, outdated vacation home.

The dark wood paneled walls and floors didn’t exude a light and airy lake home, so Stacie carefully placed windows throughout the home and updated the kitchen layout and cabinetry.  The wine-loving family loves the integrated beverage/wine cooler in the cabinetry.  She removed obsolete flowered wallpaper and created rich yet lighter earth tone colors and reconfigured the layout of the kitchen to feature an angled bartop to maximize convenience, space as well as integrate the kitchen with the family room.

Stacie utilized innovative design such as separating the washer and dryer and putting an attractive and multi-purpose banquette on top of a bed in between the machines. This allows the family to sit at the kitchen table on a hidden guest bed.

The bathroom represented the worst of 1980’s mediocre design, so she updated the bathroom and paid attention to detail such as integrating pieces of abalone shell in the tile creating a dynamic floor that the family adores.

Result: Exemplified by the photos before and during renovation, Metropolitan Design Concepts clearly made strides in maximizing space, utility, and light by smart design.  The family room now has floor to ceiling picture windows capitalizing on the beautiful view off the deck and a wonderful focal point of the stone fireplace.

“We just love the final product Stacie created!” said the Petersons, the homeowners.  “We’re delighted at how it turned out and now the kids can’t wait to spend time at the house!”
