Love it or Leave it?

Sarah and Carl started looking for a new home. They wanted an open floor plan which they did not have in their existing home. With the help of Stacie’s vision, they were able to renovate their current home opening up the family room and kitchen, and updating the dining room to create their perfect home. We started the project by removing a wall that separated the family room and the kitchen. The removal of the wall gave us an additional 40 inches of space which is the depth of a piece of furniture. With the newly expanded room, we carefully designed the 8-foot wall of cabinets in the kitchen. Making the cabinets this tall created the illusion of space in the room.

Next on the list was creating a great focal point in the kitchen with the addition of an upsized island.  With the addition of a larger island, both guests and family can enjoy each other’s company around the comforts of the kitchen.  A small wall in the kitchen also created to much weight in the space. To lessen its floor presence and to make it more appealing, we creatively designed three cut outs to add interest. Like any renovation, color was also a game changer to the final design. The colors of the cabinetry, walls, ceiling and trim were selected to complement each other and give the room a sense of serenity.

Finally, we updated the dining room. Before, 5 columns adorned the dining room making the room feel outdated. As a fix, we added small walls to create intimacy and give the dining room borders. We paneled the back wall and added antique mirrored glass for character. To top it all off, we painted the ceiling a soft blue-gray in high gloss paint and painted the hall wall a deep dark navy to give interest.
